Winch is a widely used device in industry for pulling loads or adjusting the tension of a wire rope and operates by cable-pulley mechanism.
The simplest winch is a spool attached to a lever. More Complex ones have gear and are powered by electric, pneumatic, hydraulic and internal combustion drives. Winches may have a brake to prevent it from unwinding unless the latch is retracted.
